Houston Rockets: DeAndre Jordan
With Point God Chris Paul on board, the Houston offense is on track to be the greatest single season offense of all time in terms of output and efficiency. None of this should come as a surprise though, the pairing of Paul and Harden in a D’Antoni led system is a match made in basketball heaven.
The team is full of athletic young players, savvy veterans, and three point marksmen. What is most surprising is that they have been a top five defensive team as well. With no additions, the Rockets have a punchers shot to take the Warriors down and that is as much as you can ask for. A positional upgrade would be only be a marginal move to push the needle for this season, but Morey of course is always thinking long term and thus is targeting DeAndre Jordan.
Jordan is a better rim protector and a better finisher than Capella is and appears to be a better fit with Harden and Paul in the sense that Jordan is aware of his limitations. But this is a move that the Rockets need to make for one simple reason – the chance to pursue the crown jewel of the NBA this offseason. It is no secret in NBA circles that the Rockets are planning to make a run at LeBron James. Joining a team with Paul, Harden, and Jordan would enable LeBron to form the team to end all super teams.
Having that large athletic center is something that LeBron has coveted during his career and the Rockets can make it happen. The financials are tricky, but if anyone can make it work, it is Morey. For the Rockets and Morey this is a shot at immortality and dynastic possibilities. Acquiring Jordan would go a long way in wooing LeBron this summer, and that is a shot that they just have to take.
