2018 NBA Draft Player Profile: Luka Doncic
By Connor Harr
Overall Outlook
Luka Doncic is still firmly in the conversation to go first overall. There has never been a player to dominate international basketball on this level at such a young age. However, my biggest difference on Luka compared to most draft takes is I like him better as a secondary handler at least right now.
I do not think that Doncic’s handle is prepared for over 30 minutes of high level NBA defense. Maybe eventually it will get there, but I like him as a player that would excel and maximize his potential in a motion offensive scheme. Where the offense has a lot of high level movement and Doncic can use his high IQ to score, make important reads, and be a real focal point on the team’s offensive scheme.
I’m also sure there is a ton of questions as to why Doncic’s defense was not mentioned. There will always be the European players are soft and play no defense stereotype, but Doncic will be a fine defender.

Far from great, probably not even good, but he will be serviceable on ball defender. Off the ball I think Doncic has grown somewhat lazier based on all his European stardom right now. However, that is not a worry either Doncic has a great IQ and will always be a solid team defender in the league.
