5. Ayo Dosunmu, Illinois
Ayo Dosunmu is an interesting prospect that I’m not sure will end up entering the 2019 NBA Draft, but if he would there’s no question that he’d be in the conversation for being a first-round draft pick. Dosunmu has had a great freshman season at Illinois and has flashed his potential numerous times, including a recent 25-point performance against Georgetown.
Overall this season, he’s had seven 20-point outings already. Dosunmu is 6-foot-5 and could probably play both the point guard and shooting guard positions; he shots 44 percent from the field and a solid 36 percent from 3-point range. In an NBA that is quickly moving to position-less basketball, there’s no question that Dosunmu’s physical traits will fit right in at the next level.
The stacked draft class could keep Dosunmu from declaring for this year’s NBA Draft, and Illinois likely not qualifying for the NCAA Tournament will hurt too, but we’ve seen circumstances change in the matter of moments when it comes to the draft. When it comes time for it, I fully expect Ayo Dosunmu to be a first-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
