Detroit Pistons
Breakout candidate: Luke Kennard
The Detroit Pistons are in a tough position, mostly due to its roster construction and the state of their non-existent cap flexibility. At the same time, this is a team that many still expect to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. Led by Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond, the Pistons are still good enough where they could make things interesting in the playoffs.
Nevertheless, one player that needs to have a breakout season for this team to really reach its potential in 2019-20 is Luke Kennard. The third-year player out of Duke is coming off a season in which he averaged 10 points on 44 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range – and did it all while only averaging 22 minutes per contest.
Assuming that he gets a bit more minutes to produce this season, there’s a good chance that Kennard could have his best season to date. Plus, if Kennard is going to take a productive step in his development, this is the year that it will come.
