By Marc Sherman
8. Utah Jazz
After ranking second on defense (105.3 rating) behind DPOY Rudy Gobert, the Utah Jazz looked to add more firepower on the offensive side of the ball by acquiring Mike Conley via trade, alongside Donovan Mitchell.
After averaging 23.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in his sophomore season, Mitchell will be paired with star veteran guard Mike Conley. Subsequently, forming a dynamic duo in the backcourt. Mitchell’s near All-Star season earned the Utah Jazz 50 wins and the fifth seed in the Western Conference.
A season ago, Utah proved to be a tough opponent with their gritty style of defense. Head coach Quin Snyder has formed a solid unit of players that can contribute on both ends of the floor. Rudy Gobert and company wreaked havoc defensively throughout the entirety of the season and will look to continue their defensive expertise into this year.
Along with Conley, Utah made one of the most underrated signings this past offseason when they reeled in Bojan Bogdanovic. This 20-point per game scorer will prove to be a pivotal asset in the starting lineup for the Jazz moving forward.
With an already established top-notch defense, this overlooked club has compiled the necessary talent to compete offensively with the rest of the league.
Look for the Jazz to challenge the Western Conference elites this season.
