8. Houston Rockets (15-7)
The Houston Rockets are one of the most confusing teams in the league right now. At times, they look like they can beat any team in the league. Then, at times, they look like they will lose in the first round of the playoffs. James Harden plays a brand of basketball that, most often than not, isn’t popular and Russell Westbrook is on pace to have the worst statistical shooting seasons of his career.
I’m not sure how this season will end for the Rockets, but it’s looking more and more like this isn’t a roster that can compete with the true contenders in the West.
7. Dallas Mavericks (16-6)
The Dallas Mavericks have been one of the biggest surprises in the NBA this season, certainly in the Western Conference. They’re currently second in the West and if they continue on this pace for the remainder of the season, there’s no question that Luka Doncic will get serious consideration to win the NBA MVP award.
Doncic has been amazing this season, averaging 30 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists per game. He’s transformed into a full-fledged superstar.
