13. New Orleans Pelicans – Tyrese Maxey, G, Kentucky
Tyrese Maxey is not the type of prospect that is going to jump off the screen when watching him play, but he is one of the better shot-makers in this draft class. And, in the NBA, you can’t have enough of those on your roster.
With the uncertainty that comes with Lonzo Ball (who will be a restricted free agent, if not extended, after next season) and Jrue Holiday (who could be traded in the offseason), it would be smart for the New Orleans Pelicans to add depth to their backcourt.
14. Portland Trail Blazers – Jalen Smith, F/C, Maryland
Considering that it would be extremely unlikely for the Portland Trail Blazers to re-sign Hassan Whiteside in the offseason, look for them to target depth for the frontcourt with the No. 13 overall pick. One player that appears to be a potential fit is Jalen Smith.
Smith is coming off an impressive sophomore season at Maryland in which he averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds, and nearly 2.5 blocks per game.
