Summary: After hiring a new front office, the Chicago Bulls decide mostly to see what they have before making major changes to the roster. One big change they do make includes resetting the rookie contract clock by trading Lauri Markkanen’s 2021 expiring contract for Jaden McDaniels at 10th overall via the Suns.
They also use the draft to replace Kris Dunn with Cole Anthony, but besides the two guys that need to be paid (Dunn and Markkanen), the roster remains untouched to be assessed prior to shaking it up. With Otto Porter’s health concerns, wing depth is a requirement that is satisfied by signing Glenn Robinson III. Jim Boylen is not brought back and is replaced by Adrian Griffin who is one of the more highly touted assistant coaches in the NBA.
Griffin should provide defensive toughness and accountability while connecting better to a youthful roster than Boylen. Overall, by committing to a new coach, replacing the extension decision in Markkanen with a fresh rookie contract in McDaniels, replacing the free decision in Dunn with a fresh rookie contract in Anthony and adding wing depth in case of Porter injury the Bulls allow themselves to wait until the 2021 NBA Trade Deadline to make a bigger move if necessary.
