Summary: The problem with the Cleveland Cavaliers roster is that their players mostly have more on-court value than their trade value. For example, for what they could get through a Kevin Love trade, it makes more sense to keep him and see how it goes. Their approach is just to add the best young talent out there in free agency and seeing if it could be developed.
Derrick Jones Jr. and Harry Giles are some solid young guys with the potential to have higher ceilings than their production due to their age. Adding them with Deni Avdija in the draft infuses some solid potential to the Cavaliers who are a long way off from being a contender in the short-term and have time to do a patient rebuild.
If any opportunity arises near the deadline to recoup any young value in a Kevin Love or Andre Drummond trade, the Cavaliers should take it. However, they don’t have a solid shot even at the playoffs in sight any time soon, so they are better served by not rushing the process. Most likely they will have another early 2021 draft pick which is a higher rated draft than 2020 and Drummond’s contract coming off the books with some others which has the makings of a solid core if their current guys, Jones Jr. and Avdija can reach their potential.
