Summary: Not a lot of excitement in the Memphis Grizzlies’ offseason. Mainly, they try to build off what was a solid 2019-20 season given the expectations they had entering the year. Ja Morant appears to be a real building block for the Grizzlies for years to come. Bringing back Josh Jackson and De’Anthony Melton are solid moves as they have developed nicely in Memphis.
They would probably look to move either Jonas Valanciunas or Gorgui Dieng near the trade deadline, but there wasn’t much of a market in the off-season due to the depth of big men in free agency. The Grizzlies made their move at the 2020 trade deadline when they acquired Justise Winslow from Miami and for the most part, they are locked into what they have for now.
Mario Hezonja is a low-risk addition to the bench at the league minimum with hopes that he can finally tap into the potential he shows from time to time and Scottie Lewis is a perfect fit for them in the second round of the draft. The key is to make sure Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. have the pieces around them to achieve success and this group seemed to have great chemistry in 2019-20.
