4. Cole Anthony, G, North Carolina
Draft projection: Top 12
Coming out of high school, Cole Anthony was the second-ranked prospect. He carried his highly touted ranking to North Carolina where he left much to be desired during his freshman season. Even though he dealt with injury, he still managed to put up fairly good numbers – 19 points, six rebounds, four assists.
Where he dropped the ball, however, is his shooting consistencies. Anthony only shot 38 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range.
Additionally, he really didn’t have the impact on his team in college that many assumed he would. Despite his stellar statistics (with exception to his less-than-desired shooting numbers), North Carolina was on pace to miss the NCAA Tournament this season. Even with Anthony was healthy and in the lineup for the Tar Heels, they were only 10-12 and struggled mightily in ACC action.
In fairness, you can’t pin all of North Carolina’s struggles on Cole Anthony but their lack of overall team success didn’t exactly help matters any. And that, at the very least, casts more doubt over Anthony’s potential at the next level.
