29. Los Angeles Lakers – Tre Jones, G, Duke
Hopefully, the Los Angeles Lakers will be making this pick in the 2020 NBA Draft as the defending champions. That’s the hope. Nevertheless, if there’s one thing that the Lakers could be targeting in the first round, with the 29th pick, it’s help in the backcourt. Specifically in terms of playmaking, so that responsibility doesn’t just fall on LeBron James.
Tre Jones is an interesting potential pick for the Lakers considering he was extremely productive during his two seasons at Duke. During his sophomore season, Jones averaged 16 points, six assists, and four rebounds per game. He also shot 36 percent from 3-point range.
Jones might not be the biggest guard but proved that he can plan on the biggest and brightest of stages. He would fit next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, especially if he wouldn’t be asked to play a heavy role in the offense. Jones could be that stick and play player that the Lakers have been looking for at the point guard position.
