Step 2: Add shooters on the wing

A team the Pacers should try to model themselves as is the Utah Jazz. The Jazz had been in a pretty similar situation to the Pacers over the past few seasons being an exceptional defensive team but only have a mid-level offense.

To bring more offense to the team, the Utah Jazz traded for Mike Conley and signed former Pacer Bojan Bogdanovic. It can be said that the Jazz’s results this season with those additions were mixed, but it is the right philosophy for the Pacers.

The Pacers already acquired an excellent point guard themselves in Malcolm Brogdon last offseason, and adding an elite shooting wing in this one could be a big step.

For as great as T.J. Warren has been this past season, he is a bit of a ball-stopper. When he is on the floor he often has streaks of seeming like a guy playing in the wrong era of basketball.

He plays slow and methodical, he feels most comfortable in the mid-range and doesn’t move the ball much.

Recently, there’s been speculation of Indiana having interest in Boston forward Gordon Hayward and that’s a move heading in the right direction.

Hayward has a silky mid-range game, but also will shoot 3’s at a better rate, and facilitate in situations. A wing with that kind of talent is needed if the Pacers want to go to the next level.
