NBA: 3 things to watch as Pelicans, Lakers reopen season
Which big names will play?
Both Anthony Davis and Zion Williams were heading into their respective restart openers as game-time decisions. It’ll be interesting to see how both the Pelicans and Lakers approach this first tilt. Will they both play it safe are sit their star players for the first game? Will they want their full arsenal of players in the opening game?
The good news is that it appeared that both AD and Zion were trending in the right direction. The concern around Zion was due to the fact that he had only appeared in two practices since he made his return into the bubble after dealing with a family matter. Frankly, with as much hype that has surrounded these Pelicans, it would be quite surprising to see Zion not play in the team’s first game. No inside information here, just somewhat of a gut feeling.
As far as AD is concerned, he told reporters that the plan is for him to play in the opener. There was doubt surrounding his availability for the opener due to precaution around an eye injury. From the sound of it, it looks like doctors will make the final call but expect AD to be in the Lakers’ lineup for the opening tip.
