Chris Paul doesn’t fit the New York Knicks’ timeline
The idea of acquiring a player that had such a big impact on the Oklahoma City Thunder is intriguing. Especially for a team like the Knicks that hasn’t sniffed the playoffs in seven years and one that just hired Tom Thibodeau to be the team’s next head coach. He’s the type of hire that suggests this front office expects to win, at least to a certain extent, sooner rather than later.
Maybe Chris Paul could be the veteran star that helps this team skip a couple of steps in the rebuild. Ultimately, I don’t think it’s wise for the Knicks to acquire a 35-year-old point guard with two years and $85 million remaining on his contract. Simply put, he doesn’t fit the Knicks’ timeline.
While RJ Barrett had a few bright moments during his rookie season, it’s not like he was a breakout star. If anything, he had more concerning moments than encouraging ones. This is not to say that he won’t be good, but just that perhaps he needs more time developing than initially thought.
As much young talent that this team has, the New York Knicks are not a Chris Paul away from competing in the Eastern Conference.
