The Philadelphia 76ers must trade Al Horford

Al Horford was added to take the pressure off of Embiid and help mentor a young team without much playoff experience. Now that deal is looking like one of the worst contracts in the NBA and one general manager Elton Brand should regret negotiating.

During the regular season, Horford put up decent numbers averaging 11.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and four assists. In the playoff series against the Boston Celtics, his numbers declined sharply while only scoring seven points, 7.5 rebounds, and two assists per game. Horford has three years remaining on his contract and $81 million.

Horford’s salary takes up right at 18 percent of the 76ers salary cap and they could have used that money to sign at least two players for that amount and got twice the production. Brand should aggressively shop Horford as he has shown that he isn’t the right fit. Brand more than likely will have to agree to take on the majority of Horford’s salary if he can find a team who will agree to a trade and it’s important that he gets some kind of value back in return to fill out the roster.
