NBA Offseason Grades: Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns make bold moves
Golden State Warriors
It doesn’t matter what moves the Golden State Warriors made in the offseason or draft you are not replacing Klay Thompson. Everyone in the league was looking forward to the all-star shooting guard coming back and the return of the splash brothers, but that return will be delayed for another season.
Picking up Kelly Oubre Jr. was a solid move, he is a player that has played well for every team he’s been on, most recently the Suns, where he put up 18.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per contest on 45 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range.
He will now be counted on to bring energy along with a scoring punch. Most people didn’t get to see James Wiseman play this season in college basketball due to him leaving his college team Memphis after he was suspended for 12 games. It will be interesting to see the way the Warriors use him. They haven’t had a versatile big man since DeMarcus Cousins.
He might be counted on more than they originally thought with Thompson being out for the season. Kent Bazemore and Brad Wanamaker will be solid for the Warriors too. Without a trade for a Bradley Beal type shooter, I don’t see the Warriors winning the championship next season or even reaching the Western Conference finals. They are not going to panic and trade for James Harden or Bradley Beal when they expect Klay Thompson to be back next year even though they thought that going into this summer.
