Marc Gasol, center
Marc Gasol is a stretch-5 who can score in the paint and help spread the floor with his shooting ability, and he should prove to be a wise addition to this team. This former Defensive Player of the Year winner excels at defensive positioning and can protect the rim keeping faster players out of the lane.
An elite-level defender, Gasol is an excellent post defender with great awareness and anticipation and serves as an anchor for the defense. He is similar to a quarterback as he communicates well and orchestrates where players need to be on the defensive end. Gasol is fundamentally sound and can effectively neutralize an opponent’s top threat with his ability to cut off and clog driving lines.
As a versatile big man, Gasol’s presence on the floor will give Davis more room to operate as opponents must account for his offensive prowess. He passes well out of the high post with great timing and touch on his passes, he’s effective working out of the pick-and-roll and looks to make the outlet pass to begin the fast break after grabbing defensive rebounds.
Gasol can also shoot it as an above-average 3-point shooter while making 39 percent of his 3’s in 3.4 attempts per game.
