Dennis Schroder, guard
Dennis Schroder could be the starter at point guard for the Lakers come opening night but is better suited coming off the bench providing instant offense. He may even play a similar role to the one he had as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder last season when he averaged 18.9 points and four assists per game while shooting 38.5 percent from behind the arc.
Schroder was also the runner-up for the Sixth Man of the Year Award. He is great at creating his own shot as well as creating plays for his teammates. He loves to attack the rim and makes opponents pay if he draws the attention of extra defenders and will consistently find open teammates.
Schroder possesses an abundance of offensive skills as he can attack off the dribble with his lightning-quick feet and elite speed. He can also successfully navigate the pick-and-roll and should work wonders playing with James and Davis. He has a good mid-range jump shot and can change speeds at the blink of an eye. Schroder has great touch on his floaters when he shoots over bigger opponents and can collapse defenses with his ability to get to the paint.
The acquisition of Schroder gives the Lakers another primary ball-handler and will take some of the pressure off James and allow him to play more at his natural position. He can catch-and-shoot without hesitation from multiple spots on the floor and on a team that already excels in transition, Schroder will be dangerous running the fast break and will be able to fit any rotation Vogel decides to put on the floor.
