6. Memphis Grizzlies – 32.5 wins: OVER
For a team that made the playoffs in the brutal Western Conference last year, bookmakers don’t seem to like the Memphis Grizzlies. Part of this may be from projecting other Western Conference teams to get better (Phoenix and Golden State), but I don’t think the Grizzlies are going to just sink back down to the lottery after one year. Not when they have reigning rookie of the year Ja Morant and a sneaky deep supporting cast that is well-suited to maintain production levels in this funky COVID season.
The Grizzlies have a softer schedule to come compared to others (16th hardest) for the first half of the season, playing 20 of the first 37 games at home and only playing six back-to-backs. Memphis will only go as far as Ja Morant goes, but keep an eye on Brandon Clarke. His efficiency and production last year coming off the bench as a rookie was very impressive and, with more expecting playing time, could be a big benefit for the Grizzlies.
I think Memphis rides a somewhat easier schedule first half of this season and should be a playoff contender the entire way. Pound the over.
