Why the Toronto Raptors should trade Kyle Lowry: This team is no longer a contender and could use an additional asset
If there’s one unfortunate thing we’ve learned about the Toronto Raptors this season, it’s that even at full strength this is not a team that is going to have enough overall talent to compete with the likes of the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference.
Even after falling one game short of making it to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, this is not a team in a position to make a deep run in the playoffs (if they can even get there). Their big three of Lowry, Fred VanVleet, and Pascal Siakam are good but not great. They’re talented but not a true Eastern Conference contender.
The Raptors could emerge as a threat in the East, but they’re not going to make it beyond the second round of the playoffs. It’s time for Toronto to pivot around their young players and they could use an additional asset that they get in return for Kyle Lowry.
