Should the Miami Heat be interested in John Collins?
On the surface, it’s probably a no-brainer. Why wouldn’t the Miami Heat be interested in a young power forward that fits next to Bam Adebayo and would add nearly 20 points per game as soon as he steps on the floor with the team? Although, there are a few questions that the Heat must consider.
For one, if the team trades to for John Collins they have to be 100 percent sure he’s the third max player that will take this team over the hump to compete for a championship. If Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo are the team’s No. 1 and 2, Collins has to be the No. 3 that completes them. I’m not sure that’s something they’re sold on.
Another potential issue is whether his offensive impact would outweigh his defensive issues. As great of an offensive player as Collins is, he’s struggled on the defensive end. He’s a solid shot-blocker, but not a great overall defender.
If there’s one thing the Heat needs more of over anything else, it’s great defenders. Miami has looked nothing like the team that ran through the East in the playoffs last season and a big part of that has been their inconsistent defense.
