Dallas Mavericks target, No. 6: Andre Drummond, Cleveland Cavaliers
In the early 2000s, the Dallas Mavericks were a fun team to watch, but a team that could never get over the hump. Many fans and analysts said their team was soft and didn’t have what it took to win a championship.
When Tyson Chandler was traded to the Mavericks in the summer of 2010, he gave the Mavs some defensive identity and toughness they needed. He wasn’t the only tough player they added to the team, but getting him signaled a change for a team that was considered “soft,” and he made a huge difference when they won the championship that next season.
Andre Drummond could do the same thing for this Mavs team. They are a perimeter team that plays a 3-point, pick-and-roll, pick-and-pop offense. They are a bad defensive team but adding Andre Drummond would be an immediate help.
Drummond is averaging 13.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. When you look at Drummond’s ability to rebound the ball historically, his average of 13.8 boards per contest ranks seventh all-time.
The fit would be perfect; Porzingis and Luka can still have the offense ran through them and Drummond can rebound and block shots.
