NBA All-Star Starter Snubs: Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics
As for the Boston Celtics‘ G/F out of UC Berkeley, Jaylen Brown is putting together the best season of his 5-year NBA career. Brown’s production is simply off the charts, producing career highs in points (25.9), assists (3.6), steals (1.2), blocks (0.6), all while shooting 50/41/77 splits on the highest volume of his career (19.5 FGA, 5.9 3PA, 4.8 FTA). His 2021 campaign is showing off his dominance as the second half of the Celtics’ two-headed monster, helping Boston to the 5th seed in the East.
Playing off-the-ball, his role boiling down to that of a scorer more than a facilitator, Brown has more than shown up, scoring 30+ points on six occasions, and twice dropping a 42 piece through 26 games. Jaylen Brown’s season is trending upwards, and in a tightly ranked conference, his decisive play on both ends of the floor should be enough to push the Celtics above and beyond the threshold for homecourt advantage.
Brown being younger and his stats being less outrageous relative to the many players in All-Star consideration surely brings down his opportunity to make his way into the weekend’s festivities as a member of the starting lineup, it should be known that if this year is any indication, Brown is not far off from making a run at that elusive 5-man group.
