Point guard: Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
This is the easiest choice of the five.
Steph Curry isn’t just the best offensive point guard in the league right now, there’s a very strong argument that he’s the greatest offensive threat from that position that the world has ever seen. No other player in the game’s history is a legitimate threat as soon as they cross half-court.
Steph changed the game like no one has since Michael Jordan. He was the one that created the 3-point revolution, where teams are taking more and more 3’s because of the effect that has on the opposing team’s defense. Floor-space is everything in today’s NBA; the bigger threat you are from outside, the more defenders have to stay close to shooters, which then means more space to attack the rim for easy lay-ups.
Having good shooters means your whole offense will be more balanced and efficient, and Curry is the greatest shooter ever. His presence alone on the court completely changes an opposition’s game plan. As I’ve stated before, he is the only player in NBA history who is as effective on the ball as he is without it.
With the ball, he’s one of the best ball-handlers we’ve ever seen, able to get where he wants on the court and his finishing is terrific as well. Off the ball, he’s amazing at using his teammates’ screens and finding space to shoot. If you fall asleep for even a second he will make you pay.
You can make an argument for Magic Johnson being the best offensive force at the PG slot due to his insane passing and decent scoring skills, but he didn’t change the game like Steph did and for that, Curry gets this selection without question.
