2-seed Golden State Warriors vs. 7-seed Los Angeles Lakers

Ok, ok I know a lot would have to happen for the matchup to even be possible. But, don’t tell me this wouldn’t be the most anticipated matchup of the playoffs.

The Lakers are awful. There’s no arguing that fact. They’re currently 28-36 and are the 9th seed in the western conference. They’ve struggled all season despite LeBron’s efforts to put the team on his back. The fit with Russell Westbrook has been awkward at best and the lack of young talent doesn’t help this team either.

In order for this matchup to happen, the Lakers would have to basically win out or have their rival Clippers REALLY struggle for the rest of the season. The Lakers would then most likely matchup with Minnesota (who are having themselves a season by the way) which could be a tough matchup, especially with the potential absence of Anthony Davis.

The Warriors, on the other hand, have been having a fantastic season despite Steph Curry’s inconsistency over the past couple of months. Klay Thompson is back and is looking like he hasn’t lost a step. Despite being currently injured, Draymond Green is playing his usual role, doing a little bit of everything and being a great glue piece.

The real surprise has been Andrew Wiggins. Although being controversially named an all-star starter this season, he’s established himself as a fantastic 2-way player, after he was written off as a bust. Center James Wiseman also is likely to make his return soon which gives the Warriors a legitimate big man.

This matchup has an almost decade-long storyline of LeBron vs. Curry and although there’s no doubt that the Lakers would most likely get steam-rolled in this series. Then again, it’s LeBron James, so just about anything’s possible.
