Charlotte Hornets choose Mark Williams and a future pick over Jalen Duren
When the Charlotte Hornets went on the clock with their first of two first-round picks, it was almost a perfect scenario. Jalen Duren, the unanimous second overall center prospect, was still on the board and it seemed like the dream scenario for the Hornets was playing out.
Then, moments after the pick was revealed, it was reported that Charlotte was trading the pick to the Detroit Pistons.
This is exactly what the Hornets received in exchange for Duren:
Five draft picks in exchange for Duren. Though, the key here is the first-round pick from Denver next season. To truly grade this move, we’ll have to look back in a few years. Although, what surprised me the most about this move is the fact that the Hornets essentially decided to choose Mark Williams and a future first-round pick over Jalen Duren.
There’s a chance that Duren could make the Hornets look silly. Time will tell.
