30 in 30: Can the LA Clippers get back to championship contention?
The LA Clippers’ championship chances may all fall on Kawhi Leonard’s shoulders
Though the LA Clippers may have the best roster, from top to bottom, in the league, I still can’t help but feel their chances of winning a championship still fall on the shoulders of Kawhi Leonard and his impending return.
If he can return to form, and that’s a big question, the Clippers will immediately be a real threat to win the championship. However, until that is answered, the Clippers will have a blurry outlook for the 2022-23 NBA season.
The last time we saw Kawhi playing in meaningful games, he was 30 points, eight rebounds, and four assists on 57 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent shooting from 3-point range in the 11 postseason games before his injury during the 2021 season.
When Kawhi has been healthy, he’s been one of the five-best players in the league. And arguably the best player once the postseason lights turn on. If Kawhi can get to that level consistently, the Clippers will be one of the biggest threats in the Western Conference.
A lot is riding on this season for the Clippers and certainly for Kawhi. It’ll be interesting how it all turns out for both the Clippers and Kawhi this season. And there’s a great chance that they could end up winning it all.
