Making the case for Luka Doncic
Objectively looking at what the Dallas Mavericks have done this offseason, you can make an argument that the expectation is that the team will take a step back this season. Losing Jalen Brunson will hurt and the Mavs will lose an element of the offense that helped take some of the pressure off Luka. But that’s what makes Luka so special.
So many times, he’s been able to go above and beyond expectations. We saw that this past season in their run to the conference finals – he makes everyone around him better even as he gets his on any given night. Luka is a career 30-plus point scorer in the postseason.
If Luka can, once again, exceed the expectations that many will have on this year’s Mavs, along with putting up impressive numbers, there’s no question that Luka will find himself near the top of the NBA MVP voting. And I’d have to imagine that there could be some voter fatigue this season, especially after Jokic has won the award in each of the last two seasons.
Our first bold prediction: Luka Doncic will win the 2022-23 NBA MVP award.
