New York Knicks: 3 big early-season questions facing the inconsistent Knicks
Is it time to unleash Obi Toppin?
Even though he’s still somewhat of a polarizing player amongst the fanbase, Obi Toppin has been objectively good this season for the New York Knicks. He hasn’t started a game this season but is averaging 10 points and four rebounds per game on 51 percent shooting from the field and 43 percent shooting from 3-point range.
Here’s the thing: he’s only averaging 16 minutes per contest. It’s clear that Thibs clearly doesn’t trust him. He’s just in his third year and Thibs has a history of not trusting young players. Could that be what’s at play, perhaps?
Either way, if the Knicks’ inconsistency in the frontcourt persists, you’d have to imagine that Toppin has to get a closer look. It’s what he deserves, but that’s not necessarily the thing he’s going to get.
