Keeping pace with the Mavs’ definite need on the defensive end of the floor, Dillon Brooks is another primary wing defender that would make a lot of sense for the team. However, he’s also a player that will likely be re-signing with the Grizzlies. Unless, of course, he can get a better offer from another team in free agency or if Memphis has come to the point where they’re ready to move on from him. Either way, the Mavs should have Brooks on their radar heading into the offseason.

Brooks is a complicated player. He’d certainly bring a level of toughness and defensive intensity that Dallas currently doesn’t have on its roster at the moment but, at the same time, he’s hit or miss on some nights on the offensive end. Brooks averaged 14 points and three rebounds per game on 39 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent shooting from 3-point range.

It’ll be interesting to see what Brook’s free-agent market ends up being this offseason considering he’s coming off one of the least-offensive efficient seasons of his career. Will that matter? Who knows but the Mavs should be lurking just in case a situation emerges where they could pounce.
