Insurance in the backcourt

Potential targets: Caris LeVert, Gary Trent Jr., Jordan Clarkson, etc.

The Pelicans need to solidify their backcourt this offseason. The starting duo of C.J. McCollum and Trey Murphy, who appears to be a rising star, has been good for the Pelicans. Though, I’d have to think that they need to continue to add depth to this position if they want to continue to see it thrive heading into next year.

There’s no guarantee that Josh Richardson is going to re-sign with the Pelicans this offseason and Dyson Daniels left a lot to be desired in his role off the bench. The good news is that there will be options for the Pelicans this offseason. If the Pelicans wanted to work a sign-and-trade for a difference-making backcourt player, they could. A few names that could help the team that come to mind are Caris LeVert, Gary Trent Jr., and Jordan Clarkson.

Of course, the team’s cap sheet does make some of that difficult. But there are ways around that. The Pelicans should be comfortable in retooling the roster a bit this summer, with their big three being completely untouchable.

If the Pelicans are going to take a step forward next season, I’d have to imagine that they’re going to need one more contributor in the backcourt.
