Step 4: Add veteran depth

Even if the Rockets miss out on adding a veteran star. That will hurt the team’s momentum heading into next season but they could just add a collection of other veterans that will help support this team’s talented young core.

And that could end up being just as good as adding one veteran star.

By the end of the season, six of the top seven contributors for the Rockets were 22 years old or younger. If that is still the case next season, this is a team that is going to continue to struggle with consistency and winning. That’s just the way it works in the NBA. Experience matters and even more so in the postseason. The Rockets are going to need to add veterans if they’re looking to make a return to relevancy next season.

The Rockets have a solid foundational core and will likely be adding to that in this year’s NBA Draft. But there is so much more that they can also do during the offseason to give them a good chance to be competitive next season in the Western Conference. The question is, will they be able to pull off such moves?
