5. Cason Wallace, Kentucky
Cason Wallace never really stole many headlines this past season, perhaps partially due to Kentucky’s string of irrelevance that they seem to be on at the moment, but he’s very much one of the five-best point guard prospects heading into the 2023 NBA Draft. And if he continues to rise up draft boards, there’s a chance that he could be selected in the top 10. Wallace finished his freshman season by averaging 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists per game on 35 percent shooting from 3-point range.
Wallace is a proven shooter and has the ability to be a strong playmaker in the NBA. What teams will like most about his game is his defensive versatility. He is probably the best defending point guard in this year’s NBA Draft class. And with his long wingspan and athleticism, he’ll likely be able to guard multiple positions in the NBA.
For everything that Wallace does well, he may not have as high of a ceiling as some of the other point guard prospects do. The biggest question about Wallace: does he have star potential in the NBA? That’s something teams will have to decide over the next couple of months.
