6. Orlando Magic – Ausar Thompson, Overtime Elite
Of the players that are likely going to be selected outside the top 4 but still in the top 10, you can make the argument that Ausar Thompson has the greatest ceiling of the bunch. Like his brother, Amen, Ausar is a guard prospect that has great size and even better athleticism. He has great long-term potential for a draft prospect and there is a path toward him making an immediate impact this upcoming season.
The scouting report suggests that Ausar will make an impact on the defensive end of the floor and as a playmaker right away. He hasn’t proven to be much of a consistent shooter but if that’s something that he can develop, he has the potential to develop into a star. At the same rate, whichever team drafts him will have to be patient with his development. Especially considering he didn’t play college basketball or in the NBA G League this past season.
He’s one of the biggest gambles in the top 10. But the long-term reward could be worth it, especially for a team that is looking for an answer in the backcourt.
