Brandon Miller
For Brandon Miller, the measurables are ridiculous. Coming out of Alabama, Brandon Miller’s 6-foot-9 size, 3-point range, and overall shot-making versatility remind me of former All-Star Danny Granger.
Paul George is the archetype — a big wing who can handle and shoot — but those comparisons ignore George’s dunk-contest athleticism and Miller’s more limited explosion, particularly around the rim. Sounds like a tantalizing asset.
Who is currently present on the roster? Expensive and oft-bruised Gordon Hayward, the free agent Kelly Oubre Jr., and the lesser performing Martin twin, Cody. That is good quality depth but no “starter” or star. Miller has the potential to be both.
Miller is a walking bucket. He can shoot it from deep having a collegiate average of 40%. While there are two ends of the floor, Miller’s height and length give him a distinct advantage. The talent is apparent as well, the only criticism can be taken during the NCAA tournament and his inefficiency.
Looking to be the man and lead his team far in the tournament, Alabama did not make it past the second round. That is not a good light to be shown on you when the lights are the brightest. If Miller didn’t have that incident in college, this would be a tougher decision.
