The Toronto Raptors have a big decision to make this offseason. We’ll talk about their options with Fred VanVleet later but Gary Trent Jr., in my opinion, is one of the most intriguing free agents heading into the summer. He’s just 24 years old and is coming off a season in which he averaged 17 points per game on 37 percent shooting from 3-point range. That’s the recipe for a very rich contract offer this offseason.

The question is whether or not it will come from the Raptors or another team. If I had to guess, my prediction is that the Raptors don’t elect to bring back Trent. They could work a sign-and-trade deal with a team that he wants to sign with or could even let him walk without a fight. Either way, I believe Trent will be playing for another team next season. One potential fit is the Indiana Pacers.

The reports heading into the 2023 NBA Draft suggested that the Pacers were in search of a wing player. After not acquiring one via trade at the NBA Draft, perhaps they could find one in free agency. And Trent could very well rise to the top of their wishlist.

Prediction: Indiana Pacers
