4. Gary Trent Jr., Toronto Raptors (unrestricted)
Gary Trent Jr. is the second key free agent that the Toronto Raptors will need to make a decision on. If the Raptors are going to pivot toward retooling, bringing Trent back doesn’t make much sense. But the fact that Toronto hasn’t proven that with any offseason move as of late, I have my doubts that they’re actually going to do that. Still, I’m not sure if Trent is a great fit for the Raptors either way. And that’s one of the reasons why I expect him to leave in free agency.
Trent is 24 years old and a good shooter (37 percent from 3 this past season). I’d expect him to have a healthy market once free agency opens. However, with how talented this Raptors roster is, they could probably use that money more efficiently as they retool around Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes.
It was reported that extension talks with the Raptors could resume but I truly don’t see that happening. Maybe they could revisit what each other would be looking for in a deal but I do really think that it is in the best interest of both sides to move on at this point.
