Kelly Oubre Jr. (unrestricted)
Injuries cut short arguably the best season in Kelly Oubre Jr.’s career, in which he averaged 20 points and five rebounds on 43 percent shooting from the field. He only played in 48 games this past season in Charlotte but you’d think that it would’ve been enough to warrant him a healthy-sized deal in free agency. That didn’t exactly happen as he’s still available on the open market. But at just 27 years old, he could be viewed as a player that could be beneficial for a team looking for help on the wing, even if it doesn’t come in a starting role.
At this point, with free agency all but dried up, it would actually be surprising if Oubre ended up in a situation in which he’s starting next season. But that doesn’t mean he can’t play a meaningful role for a team. At this point, any team that likely signs him is probably going to have to sign and trade for him. And that could be the holdup at this point.
Oubre is an interesting name to watch over the next few days and you can’t imagine that he’s going to be on the open market for much longer. He deserves to be signed and I think the biggest reason why he hasn’t is because he hasn’t found the right situation for himself. That is likely to change soon.
