5. Leonard Miller, Minnesota Timberwolves (33rd pick)
Leonard Miller was selected 33rd overall by the Timberwolves, and he was able to show a little bit of everything as a 6-foot-10 19-year-old. Some expected Miller to go as early as the teens, perhaps to the Miami Heat, but he ultimately fell to the second round on draft night.
His showing during Summer League likely made teams regret letting him slip. Despite being younger than nearly everybody on the court, he was consistently among the best players on the court each time out. In his five games, he averaged 15.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on a 54.1 TS% (44.6/36.8/85.7 splits).
At his 6-foot-10 frame with a 7-foot-2 wingspan, he showcased the ability to handle the ball and bring it up the floor. He was hitting threes efficiently both off of the catch and off of the bounce. He was hitting turnaround jump shots, while also playing good defense.
The Timberwolves big man room is rather loaded, as they have heaps and heaps of money tied into Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, and Naz Reid over the next few years. It will be difficult for Miller to get minutes immediately because of this, so he may spend some time in the G-League, where he just averaged 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds on a 63.3 TS%. He will likely be even better with the T-Wolves G-League team, as he will be given more touches.
The future should be bright for Miller, as his versatility and talent are completely built for the NBA.
