Orlando Magic
Biggest offseason moves: Drafted Anthony Black and Jett Howard, signed Joe Ingles
Heading into an offseason in which many expected the Orlando Magic to be one of the most aggressive free-agent participants, it was somewhat surprising to see the team pretty much stand pat. Instead of using some of their money to pursue the likes of Dillon Brooks or Fred VanVleet, the Magic showed a bit of restraint. And it could end up paying huge dividends down the line for the franchise.
Even though the addition of an established veteran would’ve brought a level of excitement that the Magic haven’t had in quite some time, there’s a strong argument to make that it simply wasn’t the right time for that. And you can’t blame the Magic for playing the long game here. They like their young core and want them to develop without bringing in players that could possibly stunt that.
With two lottery picks, the Magic selected Anthony Black and Jett Howard – two players that could end up being big parts of this team’s build. Orlando had a need at point guard and the hope is that Black could one day grow into the long-term answer at the position.
