Golden State Warriors
With the contracts that the Golden State Warriors are locked into at the moment, it’s hard to envision them carving out enough cap space to sign Giannis Antetokounmpo outright. Unless, of course, they’re not going to re-sign Klay Thompson after this season, and are willing to trade Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green between now and that offseason. That seems unlikely to happen. Even then, if Giannis does test free agency in 2025, I can’t completely discount the Warriors from getting in the mix.
However, in 2025, this Warriors’ core could be cooked. Curry will be 37 years old and there could be some real changes made during that summer if not before. Could the Warriors sell Giannis on being the next superstar to take over the reins from Curry for Golden State? Over the last decade, the Warriors have turned into one of the greatest and most decorated franchises in the NBA.
The days of Golden State not being a destination franchise are over. Curry changed the complete perception of this franchise. Giannis would likely consider signing with the Warriors depending on how the rest of their roster looks at that point.
