5. Golden State Warriors
Even though the Golden State Warriors fell short in their title defense last season, and in the second round of the playoffs to the Los Angeles Lakers, I imagine we’re going to see a much better effort on their part this season. Even without making a huge addition this offseason, the Warriors should be better if they can stay healthy. The mid-season absence of Andrew Wiggins had a bigger impact on the team than many realized.
With Wiggins back full-time, the Warriors should look more like their championship selves on a consistent basis. Plus, after a disappointing showing in the playoffs, I’d imagine that we’re going to see a Warriors team that comes out playing with a chip on its shoulders. Stephen Curry is still playing at a high level, Draymond Green was just re-signed, and Klay Thompson will be playing for an extension himself.
The addition of Chris Paul is an intriguing one. The early whispers are that the Warriors are going to attempt to start Paul next to Curry. However, I’m not sure how long that will end up working. I’d imagine Paul’s best role for this team will end up being off the bench.
