NBA Trade Rumors: With the Miami Heat open to trading Jimmy Butler, we explore four perfectly constructed blockbuster deals to get the move done.

All of a sudden, it seems as if the Miami Heat have been hit with the cruel reality that it may be time to move past the Jimmy Butler build. Either that, or there's more going on behind the scenes in Miami that we know of. Either way, it's been recently reported that the Heat is finally open to listening to trade offers for Jimmy. No matter how we may have arrived here, it's certainly going to change the outlook for the Heat heading into the NBA Trade Deadline.

With Jimmy potentially on the trade block, it could open the door toward some real chaos taking place between now and the NBA Trade Deadline. Jimmy is said to prefer being traded (if he has to be) to a win-now contender or perhaps one of the Texas (his home state) teams. In trying to predict what a Jimmy trade could look like, we explore four near-perfect blockbuster deals that could come to fruition before the deadline.

Jimmy to the Los Angeles Lakers

Assuming that Jimmy Butler would be open to a team like the Los Angeles Lakers, which could probably be described as a star acquisition away from being a legit contender in the Western Conference, there could be a path toward a deal between the two sides. It would be a huge blockbuster deal and would probably be a tad easier to pull off if a third or fourth team were included. However, for the sake of simplifying this deal, let's explore what a 1-to-1 deal between the Lakers and Heat would look like.

In this hypothetical deal, the Heat would send Jimmy, Josh Richardson, and Thomas Bryant to Los Angeles in exchange for a package that includes Rui Hachimura, D'Angelo Rusell, Gabe Vincent, Jalen Hood-Schifino, and a protected 2029 first-round pick. This is a deal that would work financially and perhaps even from a basketball perspective for both sides. The Lakers would get their long sought-after star in Jimmy (partially to appease LeBron James) and the Heat would get a quality frontcourt player in Hachimura, some soon-to-be expiring contracts, and draft compensation.

This may not seem like the best potential the path could go down if they want to trade Jimmy but it should be noted that any deal the Heat makes that includes Jimmy is not going to be as simple as it may seem. Considering the situation, this may be a path the Heat would be willing to take if the Lakers agree.

Jimmy to the Houston Rockets

Jimmy Butler is from Texas and, more specifically, from the Houston area. It would be a great story if the Rockets were able to pull off a move for the hometown star as they look to take another leap forward to championship contention in the Western Conference. So far this season, the Rockets have looked like a team that could emerge as a potential dark horse contender in the Western Conference. As their young core continues to develop, you'd have to imagine that there's a very good chance that this team is a big deadline move away from making some serious noise in the postseason.

The question is, could Jimmy be that one big move that helps this team emerge as a contender this season? It's tough to predict. But the Rockets are currently tied (in the loss column) for the second seed in the Western Conference and are within two games of the top-seed Oklahoma City Thunder. One big move from the Rockets at the trade deadline could very much be the difference in Houston fading during the second half of the season to emerging as a real playoff threat in the conference.

Breaking down the blockbuster deal

The only real path I see the Rockets in trading for Jimmy is if they could pull off the move without touching their young core. If the recent reporting is any indication, the Rockets aren't ready to break up their young core and want to see how it continues to develop. The good news is that the Rockets don't necessarily have to trade any of them if they want to make a deal happen with the Heat centered around Jimmy. Whether it makes perfect sense remains to be seen, but there's certainly a path.

In this deal, the Rockets would send Fred VanVleet (who is on an expiring contract anyway), Steven Adams, Jae'Sean Tate, and a protected future first-round pick in exchange for Jimmy Butler and Terry Rozier. I understand there could be some natural hesitance for the Rockets to make such a big move but this deal would help them keep their young core intact while also adding a star player to their roster which would give them the needed legitimacy before the stretch run. At the very least, it's a deal the Rockets would have to consider.

Jimmy to the Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are the other Texas team that could be in the market for Jimmy Butler if he is indeed on the trade block. At least for now, the San Antonio Spurs don't make much sense for Jimmy. Even though the Mavs are beginning to hit their stride of late, this is a team that may need to make a move closer to the NBA Trade Deadline if they want to solidify themselves as a real championship contender. In the wide-open West, there's no question the Mavs can repeat as champions. But we must remember, in the NBA Finals it felt as if there was a gulf between Dallas and Boston.

I'm not sure if the addition of Klay Thompson is going to close that and if there's anything we know about Jimmy, it's that he generally plays his best in the postseason. Jimmy may not be in the prime of his career anymore but he has a history of slaying the giant that is the Celtics. The question the Mavs would have to ask themselves is whether he has any magic left in his arsenal. On the right team and in the right situation, there's reason to believe that he may.

Breaking down the blockbuster deal

Let's get this straight, any deal for Jimmy is going to be extremely complicated for the Mavs. But if they truly want to go all-in on winning an NBA Championship this season, there is a path toward getting a deal done. To make it happen, they're likely going to need the help of a third or fourth team. And in this hypothetical package, we used the Indiana Pacers as a team to help facilitate this deal getting done. Starting at the top, the Mavs will get Jimmy and only him in this deal. That just goes to show just how complicated Dallas' cap situation is.

Miami will send out Jimmy (to the Mavs) and two second-round picks (to the Pacers). The Heat will receive Aaron Nesmith, P.J. Washington, Maxi Kleber, and Naji Marshall. For participating in this deal, the Pacers will have an answer at the center position with Daniel Gafford and one additional second-round pick from the Mavs. Dallas will have been able to now establish a new core of Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, and Jimmy. I'm not sure how much sense this deal makes for the Mavs but they got another star.

Jimmy to the Golden State Warriors

At least in my opinion, the most likely landing spot for Jimmy Butler is the Golden State Warriors. I'm not sure how much interest the Warriors will have in Jimmy right now but there is a clear path toward a deal getting done between the two sides. At this point, both the Warriors and Heat would very much welcome some change to their respective rosters. The Warriors got off to a great start to this season but have begun to fade over the last few weeks. They could very much need a big move at the trade deadline to spark them heading into the new calendar year.

Interestingly enough, dating back to the offseason, the Warriors did have some reported interest in Jimmy. Again, I'm not sure how much that remains to be the case but it could add another level of interest for both sides heading into the trade deadline season. I'm sure there will at the very least be a conversation between the Warriors and Heat about how feasible a deal may be for both sides.

Breaking down the blockbuster deal

In this hypothetical deal between the Warriors and Heat, we would see some real change to both rosters. It could initially be viewed as too jarring but I'd argue it's a deal that could end up working for both the Warriors and Heat in the long run. In the deal, the Warriors would send Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, De'Anthony Melton, Kyle Anderson, and a protected 2028 first-round pick to Miami. In return, the Warriors would receive Jimmy, Haywood Highsmith, and Nikola Jovic.

There could be some pushback from Miami in trading Jovic but to be perfectly honest, despite his bright spots last season, he simply doesn't look to be a fit with how the Heat want to play. Parting ways now could make sense. Miami could start anew with Kuminga and Bam in the frontcourt. For the Warriors, they'd get a new-look Big 3 of Steph Curry, Jimmy, and Draymond while also adding a couple of new pieces to their rotation in an attempt to shake things up a bit.
