NBA Rumors

Those that believe that LeBron James had his mind set on leaving the Miami Heat before the 2013-14 NBA season concluded should begin to think otherwise.

According to LeBron himself, he would have likely returned to Miami if the team had won its third consecutive NBA Championship.

"[via South Florida Sun Sentinel]In the interview with Rachel Nichols for the network’s Unguarded program that airs Fridays at 10:30 p.m., James said a third consecutive Heat championship likely would have preempted his eventual return to Cleveland. The Heat instead lost 4-1 in the NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs.  “It’s a greater chance, for sure,” he said. “I mean, it would be hard to leave back-to-back-to-back championships and try to go for four. But, obviously, you really can’t live and think of what may have happened. For me, I’ve always been a person kind of live in the moment.”"

Unfortunately, for Miami Heat fans, that didn’t happen. Instead, the Heat lost to the San Antonio Spurs in five games and LeBron returned to his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers after opting out of his contract.

But I suppose it’s interesting to see where his thought process was throughout the 2014 NBA offseason. He said he makes decisions “in the moment.”

It’s easy to see why LeBron likely stays in Miami with a third straight title.

LeBron’s full interview with Rachel Nichols airs Sept 26th at 10:30 p.m. (ET) on CNN.
