LeBron James was back in the news after making these comments:
“If I really wanted to. If I really wanted to be the scoring champion every single year – every single year – I could really do it. But it doesn’t matter.”
Several have used these comments to label James as a selfish player, but I didn’t take these comments sounded selfish at all. James knows that he could lead the league in scoring every season.
And who are we to doubt James? He has some room to talk – he is the leading scorer (29.8 points per game) in the NBA right now, but is still averaging 8.5 assists per game.
The comments make may James sound arrogant, but James is just a very confident individual. In fact, if you consider all of the hype and talk that has surrounded James since he was a teenager, it’s refreshing to see him put his team’s goals ahead of any individual goals.
“That’s what position we’re in right now,” James said. “If we can do that, that will be more important than a scoring title. I mean, individual accolades take care of themselves.”
