Pick 31: Why Fans Wait Till Pick 60

Think back. Think back about the 2010 NBA Draft.  Don’t think about the lottery, think about the time you turned it off, it was probably right around “With the 30th pick in the 2010 draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves select Lazar Hayward”. Boom, I just seen all the first round picks in the draft and that’s it. Oh, but you were wrong. In fact: You been wrong for about the last 10 seasons.

The NBA’s 2nd round has been a staple for building a roster for alot of teams now. Don’t believe me? Here’s some players drafted in round 2 since 2003:

Steve Blake, Mo Williams, Anderson Varejo, Chris Duhon, Trevor Ariza, Ronny Turiaf, Lou Williams, Paul Milsap, Carl Landry, Glen Davis, Marc Gasol, Goran Dragic, Marcus Thornton, Chase Budinger and Jonas Jerebko just to name a few.

The point is, the 2nd round isin’t sexy, there will never be a draft that I think will be deep enough to make people think: I have to view the second round of this. However, the NBA will continue to see many of the 2nd round picks do well. Why? Because you get that hungry, underrated player who’s contract is usually not guaranteed and they have something to prove.
