During the first half of the Louisville Cardinals’ Midwest regional final against Duke on Sunday, guard Kevin Ware suffered a gruesome leg injury that left his teammates, coaches, the opposition and fans watching from all over the country in a state of shock, disbelief and enormous guilt.
With 6:33 remaining in the opening half, Ware went up to contest a three-point attempt by Tyler Thornton, only to land awkwardly on his leg.
The Cardinals bench appeared to be traumatized with what they saw. Early reports indicate that Ware’s shin bone was “fully protruding from his leg”. Other reports suggest that some players may have vomited upon seeing the injury.
Ware was taken off the court via stretcher and transported away via ambulance to Methodist Hospital. The school later confirmed that Ware did indeed suffer a broken leg.
I’m going to provide a link so that those who didn’t watch it live can take a look at what exactly happened. Viewer/Reader discretion is STRONGLY advised. It’s hard to watch.
We here at Sir Charles in Charge would like to wish Kevin Ware a speedy and successful recovery.

.@tracywolfson reports Kevin Ware told his teammates: "Don't worry about me. I'll be OK. You guys go win this thing."

Re: Kevin Ware. Devastating scene, but the good news is from what was shown it should be a fairly routine surgery.

IMO, CBS made the wrong choice by not showing Kevin Ware's injury, at game speed, just once for journalistic purposes.

Doc on Kevin Ware: "As a player you don't think about [that risk] but I can't imagine what his parents and Pitino went through seeing that."
