New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert left the team’s game on Thursday against the Washington Wizards with a sprained right elbow and did not return.
According to ESPN New York, Shumpert will be re-evaluated today in New York. Word on his availability going forward this preseason should be more clear later in the day, if not then by the weekend.
"“A pretty uncomfortable feeling,” Shumpert said after the Knicks’ win over Washington. “But I’ll be alright.”“Hopefully it doesn’t swell up. Hopefully everything’s fine and I can play tomorrow.”[ESPN New York]"
Though, Shumpert did say after the game that if it were a regular season game, he would have been able to return. This was Shumpert’s first start of the preseason at shooting guard — a spot that he is “technically” battling for with J.R. Smith. Smith still hasn’t been cleared to play, but is hoping that he can return for the team’s last preseason game.
Shumpert had four points and this electrifying left-handed putback dunk before exiting:
Shumpert has been averaging 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game throughout the first four games of this season’s preseason. The Knicks are back in action on Monday against the Raptors in Toronto.
