Much like the Miami Heat, the Los Angeles Lakers will have a completely different team next season as well. As of right now, the only players under contract for the Lakers are Steve Nash, Kendall Marshall, Kobe Bryant, and Robert Sacre. Kobe Bryant will be coming off a torn Achilles’ tendon at the age of 36 next season and it is time to rebuild. It is unknown how Bryant will return, but they have been arguably the most active in the pursuit of free agent Carmelo Anthony, but no deal has been agreed to as of yet.
The Lakers are sitting on $28.1 million in cap space and can afford Anthony or James. The only way to Los Angeles to add both James and Anthony is if they can find any takers for Nash’s contract which is highly unlikely at this point. The best option is to go after one of the two stars and build around that. Since the Lakers have so much cap room they should be the top team to watch in free agency, especially since they have yet to hire a head coach either. The 2014-15 Los Angeles Lakers team will look significantly different and it will be intriguing to see what gets done to revamp this franchise.
